First Fridays this month will feature the art work of Caroline Gray, music by Bierwax, beer by US! Come celebrate on the waterfront!
About the Collection
The first half of this body of work is compiled of figurative and still life oil paintings. Each painting was observed directly from nature. Although simple in their subject matter, Gray is chiefly concerned with the foundational qualities of color, composition, and light and how they interact on the canvas.
The second half of this collection consists of charming, nostalgic genre scenes rendered in bold, two toned hues obscuring the full context of the scene. Gray is interested in exploring how far an image can be simplified and its perspective still be understood. The playful, familiar, and figurative compositions are sourced from Gray’s personal collection of vintage photographs.
