About the Artist:
Kimberly Anderson is a Brooklyn-based lens-based visual artist originally from Richmond, VA. Her artistic practice delves into deeply personal narratives and explores themes of storytelling, dynasty, memory, and Black cultural traditions. Through her work, which incorporates photography, collage, and mixed media, Kimberly creates multi-dimensional pieces that transcend temporal boundaries, encompassing the past, present, and future.
Often drawing inspiration from her own family's preserved albums and oral histories, Kimberly weaves together original and archival imagery to construct intricate visual narratives exploration centers on examining the shared threads within Black memories and the enduring significance of the African American family as a guardian of cultural heritage. Her work, serves as a repository of emotional resonance and a sacred space for ritual and remembrance.
Kimberly's work has been exhibited at Revelations Gallery, the International Center of Photography (ICP), skArtspace, and Click! Photography Festival. Her work has been featured in Bronx Narratives Magazine and with Kinship Photography Collective. Most recently, she was a visiting artist resident at Peter Bullough Foundation.
