This month’s First Friday exhibit features the artwork of Marlon Gonzalez. Based in New Jersey and often working in Red Hook, he draws inspiration from the textures of daily life, family, travels, and music, which deeply influences his process, pushing him to move beyond conventional forms into layered works that demand time and presence.

In this collection, Gonzalez brings together paintings, drawings, and collages that reflect moments on the verge of transformation. Working with oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, paper, and his own photographs — from world travels to the overlooked or mundane facets of the city — he assembles images that shift between the familiar and the surreal.
