This month’s First Friday exhibit features the artwork of Sarah Ingraham. Raised on the coast of Maine, Ingraham is a Brooklyn-based painter whose practice spans painting, murals, rug making, and wallpaper design.
In this recent body of work, Ingraham is inspired by the color and improvisational qualities of florals, combined with the patterns, objects, and rhythms of home. Through these motifs, she seeks to establish a sense of harmony within the paintings. Bouquets and individual flowers often emerge as distinct personalities or bold, feminine tableaus.
The soft paintings parallel her acrylic work, but they are inflected with humor, looseness, and a clumsy sense of joy. In these pieces, Ingraham relies on a different medium, allowing a machine and yarn to determine mark, texture, and color.
Ingraham’s artwork will be on display in February. For the First Friday opening party, we’ll have a DJ courtesy of BierWax spinning tunes. Come take in the art and music on the waterfront!
