Curated by staff member and filmmaker Jarika Johnson, we’ll be hosting a documentary film screening in The Hall. Featuring three movies by local filmmakers:
“Tah-Kee-Os-Tee” directed by Jarika Johnson. This film is about the aftermath of Hurricane Helene on Western North Carolina and uncovers the impact the storm had on the environment, economy, and community, all while celebrating the resilience of those rebuilding.
“The Town that Time Forgot” directed by Lauren Mullé. In this documentary about Micanopy, FL, residents and shop owners paint the picture of what life is like in the earliest inland town in Florida. Micanopy looks just as it had in the early 20th century, but just down the road lies the part of town that is truly forgotten.
“222 Macon Street” directed by Yasmine Tiana Goring. Yasmine confronts the violence of change. When she returns to her family's old brownstone in Bed-Stuy, only to find a neighborhood she barely recognizes. Who is responsible?
The films will be followed by a discussion. Entry is free.
